What thermal camera were you using for this video ?
Would love to call, but I am in Idaho.
How much would you charge for this?
This video rocks
Super cool. We are a roofing company up in ontario Canada, we needed to stay busy in the winter so a few years ago we started ice dam steaming and attic insulation top up . Been fun look forward to it every winter ! We use the artic steamer
Where can I get one? I just get ice dams on the shady side on my house at end of valley. What can I do to prevent them so they don't form ice along valley? Dangerous standing on roof in winter with ice over shingles or underneath snow.
Where do you hook up the water? Is it from an outdoor spigot?
I’m in Fridley. Are ya close?
hey thanks man! just purchased my setup today. With moss build up do you brush the majority off? or do you usually stick to spraying only so it doesnt damage the roof?
That steam cleaning process looks way cool. Does the operator have a UA-cam channel? I would totally watch that.
This is the channel Linda. 😁 thanks for the AWESOME comment!
that look dangerous as hell walking on a roof during the winter.
It is dangerous, and especially if you don’t have experience. I’ve been doing this 20+ years and was a roofer most of my life. But I would never suggest someone without training attempt to be on a roof in the winter.
Awesome video!
Hello! I'm from Northern Minnesota, I want to start my own ice dam removal business. Where's the best place to buy a roof steamer? If you don't mind answering. Thank you, I love the care you guys take in your work by the way!
What mix ratio?
Nice work on the Ruff.
Bought my first Arctic Steamer this year and love it. We made a few rookie mistakes like forgetting to drain the water hose properly and having it froze solid the next morning. Looking forward to finishing out March and next year. Thanks for your content.
Excellent Video. I sure wish you were here at Tahoe right now!
Janet, Give me a call 612-919-4185
What do you do with the huge amounts of snow once it falls next to the building
We move the snow piles if they want us to via snowblower/shovel or machine if needed.
Deem looks like monkey bussines. Overcimplicated simple problem
Nothing simple about water coming in a building from ice dams. And most people don’t know enough to avoid hot pressure washers on their roof so we try to educate them so they can avoid roof damage. You never want to damage your roof while removing ice dams.
@@IceDamRemoval-SoftWashing worked here in northern country on rooofs for over decade. Have seen way biger ice dams. Ruber mallet and problem is quickly solved. No damage to roof. Walking excerts biger presure. This method is super slow and presumably expensive, which means People will avoid doing it and therefore postpone the job.
@@viesers I was a union roofer and hammers are not good on roofs to remove ice and shingles are like peanut brittle when covered in ice. No impact should be used to remove ice dams. ARMA also frowns on hammering on ice dams. Also steaming ice dams is way faster than a hammer. And smart customers will always choose a method that maintains the integrity of their roof. Always choose low psi steam and not hammers. I’ve been doing this over 20 years and I’d never recommend that someone hire a guy with a hammer. PS… you can’t hammer the ice out of the gutters and downspouts but we can steam the drains, gutters and downspouts to ensure the roof is ready for that first spring rain….
@@viesers Rubber mallet and problem quickly solved? lol. lol LOL.
Ruberr mallet cant harm roof more than you walking on the roof. Your feet is 10 times biger rubber mallet. If roof is made from clay, then it should be designed in way that ice dams cant appear. Gutters shouldnt be cleaned from ice at all. Ice in guuter doesnt pose any risk. Trying to clean it can create way more damage. But if you want clean gutters (and avoid ice dam buildup in first place) then you should put heating cable inside gutter. Running it rough winter will be 10x cheaper, than sending someone with steam on the roof.
Awsome...👍👍💜💜
Thank you so much!! We appreciate your comment very very much!
Well... Thats the beauty of low pressure steam !
It is beautiful 😁
What machine do you use, I’m in Utah and my icedams are like 2 feet thick.
That was absolutely badass!!!!! Loved watching this one!
So glad you enjoyed. This was a huge project. The job was not easy and the video editing took along time. Thanks for your comment. Plz subscribe to be notified of all new content.😊 Thanks!
What do you charge per hour
Where did you get that gun and nozzle? Fellow Minnesotan
That’s an Arctic Steamer
We do use them while rolling up hoses but while steaming we like leather because the metal of the gun gets really hot and with leather we can grab the metal to heat up our hands if cold. I find insulted rubber gloves are good sometimes but not when it’s really cold out.
Wear insulated rubber gloves
...and that's the beauty of low-pressure steam...
LOL a trigger gun does not mean only a pressure washer
A trigger gun should never be used to remove ice from a roof and here is why! If the user on the roof releases the trigger the burner turns off and the machine drops out of steam. There is also a spike in pressure when trigger is squeezed again. If the user does not squeeze the trigger and allow machine to go back to steam before cutting ice damage will occur. There is to much room for error when using a trigger gun and the machine can freeze up without constant flow. It’s just a bad idea all around and as a homeowner I would not want a trigger gun used on my roof. And PS a company who sells steamers used on roofs will never sell one with a trigger gun as they may be liable for roof damage.
My biggest worry is accessing water for the machine. Do you run into winterize homes where the outside spigot is off or froze shut?
Hey it was a pleasure speaking to you on the phone in regards to the Arctic Steamer. Can't wait to pick up my machine and blow the competition out of the water. In fact there is No Competition when we show up! Looking forward to joining your association!
Wow those gauges on your hot pressure washer sure looks like you know what your doing.
Gauges on our steamer you meant to say. There is a huge difference between a hot pressure washer and a true steamer. But yes Bob we do know what we are doing and we believe that by using gauges we remove the ice as fast and gentle as possible. Thanks Bob! Let us know if we can help you.
@@IceDamRemoval-SoftWashing so it’s a hot/ cold pressure washer with a steam setting
@@bobwhelk2117 no that is not correct at all. Max pressure is about 100 psi so it’s not a cold or hot “pressure washer!” This machine is a dedicated ice dam steamer and cannot be changed to be a high pressure machine either cold or hot. This machine is designed and built as a dedicated low pressure ice dam steamer. There are many other companies that do run hot pressure washers and call them steamers when in fact they are not and cannot reach steam temps or low enough pressure to be safe and gentle on roofing materials. High pressure hot water will void asphalt shingle warranty and low psi steam will not. Please check out IDSAFE “Ice Dam Steaming Association For Education” if you really want to learn about the importance differences between the two machines. It has been a passion of mine for years to remove ice correctly with ZERO damage and that can only be done with low psi steam.
Your videos are the best! What boots are those? I need them for all snow activities, especially to work on my roof!
Thank you! I believe those are from Cabelas.
Awesome job 👍🏻
Thank you so much!
Hey I am a Roofing Contractor in Northern WI and I am tired of just shoveling roofs without a viable solution for the ice dams. I have been looking at some low pressure steam machine and see a lot of options, what do you prefer and why? Thanks for the video and the time you took to produce it!!
Nick, I am glad to hear you are looking at low pressure options. Because obviously high pressure hot pressure washers will damage and void a roofs warranty. I prefer a machine at about 100 psi and 275-290 degrees F! That is good gentle steam and a really low pressure. But remember even at low pressure you still need the correct steam expansion nozzle. You can’t just drill out a high pressure nozzle to decrease pressure. You are welcome for the video.
To anybody watching this video this guy is real pro and knows what he is doing, I've worked for him great guy and will do what needs to be done to make sure his customers are satisfied!
Thank you!
Just oxalic acid and water or did you start with sodium percarbonate mixed in water first?
We have a proprietary mixture we have developed over the years and neither solution you stated was used. I’m unsure if what you mentioned would attain the same results.
How much you charge for that looking to buy a set up this winter
Do you like the steam machine better then a heater pressure washer. Seems like a very slow process what would charge for a 2000sqft roof
As a business owner we are not concerned with speed we are concerned with a damage free ice dam removal and that is why we choose steam over hot water at high pressure. We could never stay in business if we were damaging roofs. A hot pressure washer will also void a roofs warranty. Steam also is able to safely separate the ice dam from the roof without doing damage unlike a hot pressure washer. We typically charge per hour as there is usually not a great way to see the total amount of ice on the roof. However we do give exact prices if the customer sends us good enough pictures. Hope this helps.
Do you charge by the hour for this kind of job?
Many times we do. Other times it’s a straight price for the job. It really just depends.
Interesting, so i watched a video you posted 8 years ago and im curious if your still running the same machine?.. im looking at a sioux steamer and potentially added this service to my pressure washing business, thanks
Yes sir! We are loyal to the same company even after all these years.
How many gallons of Sh for an average roof?
Lichens do not come off easily, even with 4000 psi on concrete, but with bleach, they just disappear. I am glad you make it clear to never scrape or pressurewash a roof. I didn't have lichens on my roof in my roof cleaning vid but bleach does all the work, like you showed. Remember everyone, spray off any plants you wish to keep before, during and after doing this, or you might not get to keep them.
He is a billy goat
Do you pull your water from a exterior faucet? Wondering if you ever have problems with the hose freezing with the water getting pulled from home?
Ice job, but in our experience we use lower pressure tips with 200 plus degrees hot water that does the same job. In my experience we got better results with the water. Also we would get fined about $10,000 being up on the roof like that without a harness & that’s why low pressure is also safer and shoot from the ladder and no boots on the roof. Good luck man and great video
With 200 degree waters you can’t undercut the ice though. Needs to be steam. I’ve never seen a video of someone close to a roof at 200 degrees. Our pressure is between 100-180 psi never higher than that and our temp is 275-300 deg F. You cannot use an expansion nozzle at 200 so I’m curious to what tip you use. Have a website?
37 years roofing. You are correct on damaging shingle with pressure. Good video
Fellow roofer 😁 some people won’t care about a roof as much we do.
Could you come down to Clearwater Florida and do this??!!!!
I don't think we are needed down there Mark. lol
@@IceDamRemoval-SoftWashing LOL, that is why I live here!
@@markbeckham7298 part of me is jealous but the majority of my being loves the snow. And it’s no secret I love steaming ice dams on roofs lol.
@@IceDamRemoval-SoftWashing And I would love a good week of snow here as it would really help in breaking up the intense heat and humidity we get during July - Nov!
@@markbeckham7298 I have never been to Florida but I know I don’t like really hot temps. Oregon is like the ideal place for me.. Maybe you too?
This video was very impressive with your use of pressure and temperature gauges on your ice dam steamers. I’m surprised that more people don’t do this. There was a lot of good information in this video especially about steam and roof snow removal. I had no idea snow could cover up vents and become dangerous. Thank you for putting together such a great video about ice dam removal and roof snow removal. Very educational! Thumbs up!
I’m glad you learned something. Thanks for the beautiful comment.
Great video. I’m north of you in Portland.
Thank you! You have some great videos too on your channel.
